Position: Network Engineer - Fibre Contract

I am currently recruiting for a Network Engineer (Fibre) based around the Cardiff area  for one of my key accounts.

 

About the role                   

Responsible for developing and designing the active end to end network. Ensure the integrity of high availability network infrastructure to provide maximum performance for the customers. Must be proficient in routing and switching technologies and ideally hold some form of industry qualification such as Nokia SRA.  Working with leading edge networking MPLS and access technologies.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Development of new products/services including broadband, data and voice products.
  • Actively develop a scalable network architecture to support the network growth
  • Test, evaluation and deployment of new network hardware and software.
  • Maintain and create new documentation. Will be required to write technical reports, specifications, training material and processes.
  • Work independently with internal and external suppliers.
  • Investigate technical issues including occasional travel to site.
  • Develop training material and run knowledge transfer activities to downstream teams
  • Work with minimal supervision and support
  • Act as technical escalation point for operational network issues
  • Attend training courses and keep up to date with relevant technologies.
  • Maybe required to take part in standby escalation rota.

 

Qualifications/Knowledge

  • Engineering based degree ideally telecommunications or computer science or equivalent experience
  • IP, Ethernet and GPON networking technologies
  • OSI Layer 7 model
  • IP, TCP, UDP, PPPoE, OSPF, BGP, SNMP, DHCP, VRRP, 802.11g/n/ac, Ethernet
  • MPLS, t-LDP, RSVP-TE
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Full UK driving licence
  •
