By now, most of our regular readers and those familiar with Samuel Knight International will know that we are proud Geordies through and through. We do have incredible offices in London, Bristol and Chicago, however, our first base and headquarters in Newcastle will always hold a special place in our hearts. That’s why when we heard that the Big 7 Media’s social audience of 1.5 million voted the Toon as the friendliest city in the UK, we were thrilled to let others know and also join in celebrating the area. From a professional perspective, we also believe that Newcastle is one of the best locations for those who want to work in recruitment. Here’s why recruiters should work in Newcastle.
The friendliest city in the UK
As mentioned above, Big 7 Media recently announced that the Toon is the friendliest city in the UK, according to a mass vote amongst its one and half million-social audience. Newcastle took the top spot thanks to its lively locals, engaging social scene and ease of access for first time visitors. The city was described as being family friendly; safe; packed with heaps of culture; and easily made visitors feel like locals. The travel site also complimented Newcastle by saying that it is “hard to match, with a homey feel and locals who go the extra mile to welcome tourists.” So, if you’re a recruiter or interested in a career in the industry, why not consider the friendliest city in the UK in your job hunt.
Home to Samuel Knight International
It’s crazy to think that five years have already gone by since Samuel Knight International’s inception. It all began in our Newcastle-based office, when there was just an intimate team of four. This is the place where the foundations were laid and the hard work was put in to make the company what it is today. Thanks to access to some of the best talent in recruitment, and experts within rail, renewables, oil and gas, we were able to create a workforce that has achieved a turnover exceeding £13 million and take home ‘Team of the Year’ at the Great British Entrepreneur awards. If you’re looking for an exciting and rewarding recruitment career in Newcastle, we’ll be able to help you out.
Access to a rich talent pool
For recruiters in Newcastle, it certainly does help having access to such rich talent pools across a variety of industries, particularly energy and rail. We have previously written about the growth of homegrown talent in the North East, and how this is fantastic for energy companies, however, this is also beneficial to recruiters in the region too.
Sector diversity in North East England makes the region one of the most attractive places to settle for a variety of inward investors and companies as well as recruiters. There is a growing skilled workforce thanks to the region being home to world class universities. In the North East there are over 100,000 students who have access to leading-edge facilities and over 5,000 courses to pick from. 77% of the students that graduate from a North East University stay and work in the region – one of the highest graduate retention rates in the UK.
