With over 15 years’ experience working in rail recruitment, Ronnie is one of Samuel Knight’s most experienced Rail consultants. He joined Samuel Knight in 2017 and speaks glowingly of his time at the company so far. ‘’Working for Samuel Knight has been a breath of fresh air. Every day is fun and the future is exciting given how fast the company is growing.’’ With specialist divisions covering a wide variety of specialist areas across Energy and Rail, Samuel Knight’s professionals are experts in their chosen fields. Ronnie comments ‘’the people here are all truly experts in their fields and I’ve never seen or experienced this level of skills wealth all within one house. We’re going places.’’
Samuel Knight Rail offer a wealth of rail recruitment/supply/delivery expertise right through from project inception to testing and commissioning. Ronnie adds, ‘’We’re able to tailor our services uniquely to meet the needs of each and every client we work with’’. Going above and beyond for a client is nothing new for him though. Paul O’Neill, who used to work with Ronnie, recalls ‘’I first met him when working as the Sub-Contracts Manager for Balfour Beatty Rail Infrastructure, around 2001. The outstanding thing about working with him was his total commitment to ensuring nothing went wrong on critical rail possession work. I know he personally got involved on site, to avoid any possible problems – hence there never were any. On moving to Kier in 2007 I had no hesitation commending the company Ronnie worked for to join the Kier Preferred Supplier Listings’’
Having worked in the industry for years, it’s fair to say that Ronnie has seen a good deal of change. ‘’We’ve seen rail maintenance be taken back in house by National Rail. We’ve seen the amount of major renewals contractors reduced from 6 to 4 in the mid 2000’s and now we’re losing one of them, Carillion, which is another big blow for the industry. Having said that though, there are a lot of reasons to be positive. HS2 is starting this year which is a 7 year project and then there is the Northern Powerhouse National Rail investment of £10 billion into the North of the country. It's exciting.’’
Outside of work Ronnie is an active supporter of Marie Curie, Cancer Research and Macmillan Cancer Support. Paul O’Neill adds ‘’ Ronnie is a great supporter of Cancer Research. This was fortuitous for me, when I produced an album by the Bolton Iron Maiden. This was the band who used the name Iron Maiden first – then, on the death of their guitarist from cancer, gave the name to the now internationally famous band Iron Maiden. Ronnie has been, and still is tireless in his effort to promote sales of the album, taking it upon himself to sell the greatest number of physical albums we have ever sold and raising thousands of pounds for charity in the process.’’ Ronnie continues to actively fundraise for good causes and plans to hold a charity white collar boxing match at some point over the next few months. This is to raise much needed awareness and funding for his sister who is suffering from a rare form of liver cancer and is currently in the US undergoing pioneering treatment.
