As regular readers of our blog will know, we are embarking on an aggressive five-year growth plan. And while last year saw us achieve a record-breaking £16 million turnover, firmly cementing our position as one of the leading global recruitment and project man-power specialists, in order to achieve our ambitious growth plan we need the right talent on board. After all, much of our success to date can be attributed to the fantastic people we have in the business.
Our latest hire is Mark Cummings who has joined us as our new energy project director. Mark follows closely in the footsteps of three other senior hires who started at Samuel Knight last month. Craig Charlton joined as business development consultant to help drive client engagement, Samer Antar was hired as energy consultant focusing on power generation, and Daniel Marshall was brought in as a consultant for our ever-expanding rail team.
Much like our other new recruits – who, between them have held senior positions in the UAE, Australia, Kuwait and Germany - Mark brings a wealth of knowledge to the business and will clearly give Samuel Knight a distinct international edge. He has over a decade of experience in engineering and project management, an impressive track record in delivering large scale EPC projects in Europe, as well as extensive experience of running his own recruitment business. Here at Samuel Knight, Mark will play a pivotal role in international client acquisition and will oversee all energy sectors, as well as rail. We sat down with Mark to find out a bit more about his background and, crucially, why he chose to work with us. Here’s what he had to say:
Q Hi Mark. You are in your first few weeks here, what are your first impressions and how are you finding being part of our recruitment agency’s growth?
A So far everything has been brilliant, there really is great energy here! (pun intended). Not only is there tremendous morale amongst the team, but everyone has also been so welcoming. It’s clear that all staff share the same vision and are hungry for success. It’s a passionate environment and the consultants are eager to grow and learn. However, what I find particularly refreshing is that senior management are already on board with suggestions and recommendations myself and the team have made to ensure we continue to grow together and drive Samuel Knight’s international expansion plans.
Q What attracted you to Samuel Knight International?
A I’d known about Samuel Knight well before I considered joining – in fact over the past three years I had crossed paths with CEO, Steve Rawlingson on several occasions – so I knew a lot about the company and how well it had been performing. However a big draw for me was the location. Deep down I am a big family man and with the company being headquartered in Newcastle, it meant that I could be close to home. After working internationally for so many years this was something that really appealed to me. However, when I considered a new position I didn’t want it to mean I would never work internationally again. And that’s why I chose Samuel Knight, because I know that I can work with clients across the globe while remaining close to home.
Q What are your future plans?
A 2019 will be a pivotal year for the business and I am excited to build on Samuel Knight’s existing strengths and be part of a team that is committed to offering a more specialist service to its clients. The business has achieved great success since its inception, and I have no doubt that it will continue to do so over the coming months and years. Everyone here has their own talents and there is a wealth of knowledge between the team – I’m certainly looking forward to being part of its exciting future!
