Establish your professional brand

It is important, not only as a graduate, but for any job seeker to equip yourself with the right tools to market yourself effectively. A well-written CV that is tailored to the specific role and an accompanying cover letter to compliment it are essential. Be sure your CV highlights the right skills that are necessary for the role you are applying for and use your cover letter to demonstrate why you would be best suited for the position. Use a graduate CV template and guide to writing a graduate cover letter to help you construct the perfect combo. In addition to this, you should ensure your social media profiles are also up to standard. Set your personal accounts to private and regularly update your professional accounts to highlight the most relevant skills and experience. Do a thorough audit of your posts and public photos to make sure you are broadcasting the right impression.

Sell your skill set

When you are invited to attend an interview, this is your chance to shine. Be confident in your abilities and be prepared to sell yourself as the value-adding professional you are. In the lead up to an interview, make sure you familiarise yourself with the contents of your CV and cover letter, and have appropriate examples or further detail to expand on if asked. Know the dress code and what is appropriate to wear at the office. Ask the question; is it a very formal or more casual office? Often the dress standards fall somewhere in between, so smart is usually best. But it is always safest to double check. Practise common interview questions and know what not to do during an interview. For more information as one of our consultants for advice on how to ace the interview.
